Yesterday, I went to the first meeting held by
the Department of Health to develop mechanisms to increase
awareness among all professionals about the impact of human
trafficking – and how to identify such individuals and refer them
on for treatment.
Last night, I had a very pleasant and
constructive meeting with colleagues from the Royal College of
General Practitioners, looking at the implications of an additional
fourth year of training for GPs. We discussed how psychiatrists and
GPs can have shared training experiences and how we could try to
match our trainees and GP trainees in placements – especially with
the third sector. We also discussed how we could build on the
success of the recent joint conference between our Faculty of
Medical Psychotherapy and the RCGP, which brought into focus the
importance of Balint groups and reflective practice.
