This is the handbook I most often
recommend to people who want to understand more about CBT.
Many mental health problems are caused or made
worse by vicious circles of unhelpful thinking that buzz
around our minds. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a way of getting
in touch with our unhelpful thoughts and the unhelpful things we do
in our lives. It also gives us important advice about how we can
begin to change the way we think and act. Unfortunately these
skills take time to learn and there is a lack of skilled therapists
to help us. Several books have been written to help us pick up the
skills and I think this is one of the clearest and easiest to
use.
It consists of 10 simple and self contained workbooks each
focussing on particular areas like assertiveness and problem
solving. The author has also developed a free CBT self
help website called Living life to the
full.
