The Royal College of Psychiatrists notes the
publication of the Department of Health’s
consultation on temporary changes to the Mental Health Act 1983
that might be required in the event of severe staff shortages
during, and in the aftermath of, an influenza pandemic.
Members of the College’s Central Executive
Committee, and the College’s two appointed Leads on Disaster
Preparedness and on the Mental Health Act, are considering the
consultation proposals and will submit a formal response by 6
October 2009.

proposals before the consultation closes should address them
