About College Membership and Association
Membership
The normal route to membership of the
College requires 24 months post foundation/internship
experience in Psychiatry AND a pass in
ALL components of the MRCPsych
Examinations.
Full details of
Examinations are available via the Examinations section of the
website. Full details of Membership are sent to
successful candidates.
Specialist
associateship
Specialist Associateship of the College is
open to registered medical practitioners working in the United
Kingdom and who meet the following criteria:
- At least 5 years experience in
psychiatry.
- Specialist training which has been assessed
in the United Kingdom as being at least equivalent to a full
programme of specialist training in psychiatry in the United
Kingdom.
- Support from two sponsors who are subscribing
Members or Fellows of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Support from the Chair of the College
Division in which the applicant is working at the time of
application (the College will submit completed forms to
Divisional Chairs on behalf of applicants).

for will be waived for all applications processed during
2013.
Fellowship is awarded
to a Member who has made a significant and distinctive contribution
to psychiatry and depends upon the recommendation of two
subscribing Members of the College. Fellowship is not normally
awarded until the nominee has held the Membership for a minimum of
ten years.

International
Associateship
There are two routes to International Associateship
for 2013- the standard route for all applicants and a special
scheme for current members of the American Psychiatric
Association.
Am I eligible?
International Associateship may be awarded to psychiatrists
with five years’ experience in psychiatry who do not hold the
MRCPsych,but who hold a specialist qualification in psychiatry and
who reside outside the UK .

How do I join?
Standard
scheme
Applicants under the standard scheme please download the
standard CV from, the standard
citation form and the registration form
and send to Elizabeth Atkinson, Royal College of Psychiatrists, 17
Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PG, UK. Please include copies
of your certificates of medical registration and psychiatric
qualification, with English translations if not in English.
We must have these to process your application.
APA members
scheme
Please download the APA scheme CV form, the
APA scheme citation
form and the registration form.
When they are completed please send to Elizabeth Atkinson, Royal
College of Psychiatrists, 17 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PG,
UK. Emails can be sent to latkinson@rcpsych.ac.uk.
Please include also copies of your certificates
of current medical registration and of your qualification as a
psychiatrist. If these aren't in English please include
translations. We must have these to process your
application. Don't send any payment at this
stage.
If you are applying under the APA scheme you do not need
to supply a supporting statement (citation) because the College
will arrange this on your behalf. Please mark
the citation form "APA member - applying under this
scheme".
What happens next?
Your application will be checked. We will write back to you to
confirm acceptance and explain how to pay the fee to complete your
registration. Once this is received your welcome pack will be
sent and your mailings and other benefits will start.
