As you probably know the Mental
Health Strategy Implementation Framework for England is out
today. I greatly welcome this
framework, and in particular its strong emphasis on the need
for mental health to be valued equally with physical health. You
will note that in the document there is reference to the work I am
doing for the Ministerial Advisory Group on Mental Health Strategy
on parity of esteem between mental and physical health, so this is
an area the College is very well positioned to influence.
We will need to work from this document across commissioning and
measurement of outcomes. Many of the work streams that are going on
across our Divisions, Faculties and Sections, and the rest of
the College, are core to this. I would very much like to hear from
members about how you will work with this new framework, either
locally or within your specialty, and would welcome examples from
those in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland as well.
I know it is holiday period, but this implementation framework is
vitally important. It is the key document setting out how mental
health services in England should be implemented. So please take a
look at it, and tell me how it could work for you in your
day-to-day clinical work, and how you can and/or do work with other
agencies.
And please also think about how you can be local advocates for the
document. Make sure your local MPs, Health and Wellbeing Boards and
Clinical Commissioning Groups know you understand the document, can
help them deliver it, and show them what you are doing as
psychiatrists and leaders of mental health teams in your
community.
I would like to be bombarded with responses from as many members as
possible!
Sue
