Enhancing Simulation in Mental Health

CPD Up to 6 CPD hours per day, subject to peer group approval. You will get a certificate of attendance via email shortly after the event.
Audience Anyone working in mental health with an interest in simulation training to improve patient care. This includes MH nurses, paramedics, physician associates or other health professionals as well as foundation doctors, student associates, trainees or consultants interested in simulation and medical education.
  • Consultant Member Fee - £75. 
  • Non-members (multi-professional staff; SASG; Affiliates etc.) & Trainee members of the College fee - £25
  • Student Associates of the College - free (please contact to book)

About this Event

At this event you will discuss theory, evidence and policy around simulation in psychiatric education. You will learn about how simulation-based teaching methods could be used in Foundation training and how to develop networks to share good practice.

By the end of the day, you will 

  • have met and networked with professional simulators
  • understand the process of developing simulations: writing scenarios, training simulators, providing feedback
  • have shared your experiences of using simulation in teaching
  • observed simulation in practice
  • have considered how you could develop simulation locally to enhance teaching of psychiatry to Foundation trainees
  • be offered the opportunity to participate in a network to share ideas and simulation scenarios

World Café on Simulation

Join us for an afternoon exploring simulation training at our world café – sessions include:

  • Use of a patient view camera to enhance the understanding of a patient’s perspective
  • Coding approaches for feedback
  • Virtual Patient Simulation in Mental Health
  • Simulation based medical education in Psychiatric Training in the North East
  • Using simulation to deliver MDT training about use of seclusion
  • RAMPPS in Yorkshire and Humber
  • Communication Skills Simulation Training for Foundation Programme Trainees in Psychiatry
  • Psychologically Informed Debriefs
  • “Psychiatry Pitstop” – presentation of a near-peer led teaching programme
  • Beyond token involvement: Developing simulation scenarios with patients, the good the bad and the lessons learnt
