ECT Training

ECT Team Day

This course will provide both specific knowledge and skills enhancement to increase patient and team safety. It aims to maximise the individual’s contribution to team functioning and the emphasis will be on the practical aspects of the ECT process.

ECT Nurses

ECT Suite Managers

ECT Anaesthetists and ODPs


This Training Day will also be of value to Approved Clinicians, Psychiatric Trainees and Associated Health Professionals who wish to consolidate their understanding of ECT.

ECT Competencies for Psychiatrists

This course will provide the specialist knowledge to enable all professionals/clinicians to feel confident and competent at their interface with ECT.

• Psychiatrists in training

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Two Day Training Course for Nurses

This short course has been developed in collaboration between the Royal College of Psychiatrists ECT Accreditation Service (ECTAS) and the National Association of Lead Nurses in ECT (NALNECT) in response to feedback from ECT nurses regarding the lack of national post registration provision of training in this specialist area of practice. This course is the equivalent of 3 study days.



The course will provide nurses with the knowledge, skills and expertise to carry out all duties and responsibilities for ECT in accordance with:


  • The Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines and the ECT Accreditation Service Standards for the Administration of ECT
  • The Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists guidelines
  • The NICE guidelines
  • The Royal College of Nursing guidance for nurses


Delegates will be expected to develop knowledge and skills and initiate and share good practice in relation to ECT.
