Friends of the College Archives (FOCA)
The group was established in 2008 to support the College in the
preservation, promotion and use of its archival heritage, and
promote interest in the history of the College, and of British and
Irish Psychiatry.
Membership
- Open to Members and Fellows
of the College, and others who are interested in the history of the
College, and in British and Irish Psychiatry.
Activities
So far we
have:
- Supported the launch of Thomas Bewley's book
on the history of the College, From Madness
to Mental Illness.
- Organised history of psychiatry sessions at
annual meetings.
- Organised an exhibition on 'Ten Nineteenth
Centruy Presidents and their Asylums' for the 2008 Annual
Meeting
- Circulated ten e-newsletters, in which
we have published interesting items from the Archives and news of
events relating to the history of psychiatry.
- Created a poster on Dr Helen Boyle, first woman President of
the Royal Medico-Psychological Association, which was
displayed at the College`s 2012 International Congress held in
Brighton.
