Clinical Governance places expectations and responsibilities on individuals and organisations to develop systems to ensure the delivery of high quality care to patients. Clinical audit is an integral part of this process as it assists multidisciplinary teams to actively and systematically review their practice in order to develop high quality services.

FOCUS on Clinical Audit in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services aims to 'demystify' the process of clinical audit for those working in child and adolescent mental health services. It provides a step-by-step guide to clinical audit followed by examples of clinical audit projects undertaken in child and adolescent mental health services across Great Britain. While recognising the complexity and challenges which are particular to this specialty, it provides professionals with a pragmatic yet rigorous guide to clinical audit.

This book was developed with the help of many clinicians within CAMHS who gave their time and support in providing real examples of clinical audit projects.

It will provide professionals with:

  • a step-by-step guide to undertaking clinical audit within CAMHS
  • examples of projects which have been undertaken by a range of clinicians, including data collection tools and recommendations for others who wish to carry out a similar audit
  • sources of evidence and references for each audit topic
  • a list of available resources for staff
  • undertaking clinical audit in CAMHS
  • tools to summarise and document individual audit topics

This book was produced by FOCUS - a strategic dissemination project, based at the Royal College of Psychiatrists,  which promotes effective practice in child and adolescent mental health services. (Please note: the FOCUS project no longer exists.)
