Personal health budgets to receive £1.5m
£1.5 million has been identified to support
the
potential roll-out of personal health budgets to help
individuals choose the best care for themselves. Personal health
budgets give patients control and choice by ensuring care is
tailored to meet their health and care needs.
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Funding Factsheet
The Department has published
the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Funding Factsheet for
2013-14. It also announced additional funding of £5.4m for new
local authority responsibilities for assessing and authorising a
Deprivation of Liberty in a hospital setting. Local authorities
will take on these new responsibilities from 1 April 2013. The
factsheet provides an indicative allocation by local authority and
an explanation of how local authorities will receive the
funding.
Consultation on proposed changes to the governance arrangements for
controlled drugs
The Department is consulting
on proposed
changes to the governance arrangements for controlled drugs in
England and Scotland, including the role and functions of
Controlled Drugs Accountable Officers (CDAOs). This consultation
describes the proposed new regulations and seeks views and comments
from all interested parties on a number of proposed changes to the
current arrangements. The consultation runs to 15 November
2012.
Health
becomes first government department to sign Time to Change mental
health pledge
On World Mental Health Day,
the Department of Health has become the first government department
to sign up to
Time to Change the mental health anti-stigma programme. Care
Services Minister, Norman Lamb, said: “We need to change the way we
think about mental health problems and by signing up to the Time to
Change pledge, we are able to show our support to stopping the
discrimination people face at work due to their condition.”
